Chicken Immunisation

Chicken Immunisation

Chicken immunisation advantages

Immunisation of chicken offers many advantages.

It allows antibody generation against highly conserved mammalian proteins; it respects the animal welfare with antibodies collected from egg yolks and not from the blood.

In addition IgY antibodies are not recognised by mammalian Fc receptors, which eliminates background coming from Fc binding.

Chicken Immunisation Programme

IgY are available in large quantity, provided by eggs which can be collected at high yields (5 eggs/week) and stored without loss of quality.

Chicken immunisation can be performed with an antigen you provide or a peptide(s) designed by Eurogentec.

Double X programmes increase the chances of success by using two peptides corresponding to distinct regions of the targeted protein. Each host will receive a combination of the two peptides.

a. See the section "How to provide your antigen"
b. Other hosts are available on request
c. The guarantee only applies for peptides when approved by Eurogentec
d. Please note that peptide design aims at conferring high antigenicity to the peptides, but doesn’t guaranty that they will lead to antibodies functional in any application. To guarantee an optimal functionality of the generated antibodies in your application, we suggest our DoubleX strategy which involves the design and co-injection of two peptides from the same antigen. This co-immunisation more closely mimics the protein than a single peptide strategy and has success rates in the 90 % in Western Blots using this technique.

How to provide your antigen

Antigen (peptide, protein, complex sample) for classical immunisation programmes can be provided in solution, lyophilised or in gel slice. The minimal amount of antigen needed depends on the antigen molecular weight and the host as listed in the table below.

Host
(number of host)
Antigen Amount
Antigen MW<18 kDa (µg) Antigen MW>18 kDa (µg)
Per animal per injection Total amount Per animal per injection Total amount

How to start

1. Fill in the request form
2. Receive a quotation (and recommendations for the peptide sequence in case of anti-peptide production)
3. Complete and send the order form (you will receive the link by email with your quotation)
4. Receive a confirmation email (at this time, your immunisation will start)

For a general discussion about your project or a tailor-made quotation, please contact your sales representative or send your request to proteomics.services@eurogentec.com.
